Two Riverbank schools placed under lockdown Friday were cleared to release students without finding a threat, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office said.

Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Officer Sgt. Luke Schwartz said “nothing suspicious” was found after deputies and school personnel searched both campuses. He did not say anyone was detained or arrested.

Schwartz said there was originally threatening graffiti found in a bathroom on the Riverbank High School campus that prompted the lockdowns. California Avenue School also was under lockdown as a precautionary measure.

Christine Facella, Riverbank Unified School District Superintendent, confirmed that there was an unfounded, internal threat and the district cooperated with law enforcement to make sure students were not in danger.

“It was done to ensure student safety,” Facella said.

A message sent out by the school alerted parents to the investigation and said not to come to the school to try to pick up students. Facella also emailed the district following the incident to let caregivers know that no threat was found.

A previous version of this story misstated the name of a second school placed under lockdown. The actual school was California Avenue.
