The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has identified two Bay Area men who were killed in a hit-and-run crash on Highway 132 west of Modesto over the weekend.

Jovany Serrano Caballero, 23, of Hayward, and Saul Garcia, 36, of San Jose, were passengers in a westbound GMC that went off the road and hit several trees just east of the San Joaquin River. Neither was wearing a seat belt and both were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. Sunday and the driver fled the scene. It’s possible the driver later got a ride with a passing motorist, according to the CHP.

Anyone with information about the crash or the driver is asked to contact CHP Officers Aaron Norseen or Blake Mitchell at 209-545-7440.
