This little piggy went ... on a brief adventure, before being caught by Hughson deputy

For a moment Tuesday morning, an 8-year-old pig may have been Hughson Police Services’ most wanted.

Piggy, a house pig weighing in at about 50 pounds, made a daring breakout from his family Tuesday morning by sneaking through a broken fence and out into the world, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department.

The escape took Piggy about 260 yards from home, until he was caught red-hooved by Deputy Corbin Alanis at the intersection of Sixth Street and Hughson Avenue. Stanislaus County sheriff’s Sgt. Erich Layton said Alanis stopped traffic so no one would hit Piggy.

In a video posted to the Hughson Police Services’ Facebook page, the sly swine wagged his curly tail as Alanis approached him near a crosswalk. Though footage doesn’t show if there was a chase, Piggy eventually was apprehended and placed in the back of Alanis’ patrol car.

Piggy’s family noticed he was missing when they went to feed him, and searched for about 20 minutes before running into Alanis as he herded Piggy. The department said the owner was “thankful and relieved.”

It is not currently known if Piggy is a regular runaway.
