An on-duty Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputy was involved in a collision in his cruiser Tuesday afternoon while coming off Highway 99.

At about 1:30 p.m. a sheriff’s deputy was traveling northbound on Highway 99 and got off at the Kiernan Avenue exit. California Highway Patrol Sgt. Roberto Iniguez said when the deputy pulled into the exit’s intersection his vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by an Acura being driven eastbound on Kiernan Avenue.

Iniguez said both drivers suffered “minor injuries.” The 37-year-old female driver of the Acura had complaints of shoulder pain and a small cut on her right hand and the deputy also suffered shoulder pain. Neither were transported to the hospital for their injuries.

Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Sgt. Luke Schwartz confirmed the on-duty deputy suffered “minor injuries.”

Iniguez said CHP is still investigating the incident and no fault has been assigned yet for the collision.

“It’s too early to say for sure, but (there) was probably low rate of speed involved here which is good because T-bones can be pretty bad,” Iniguez said.
