Turlock police seize estimated $1M worth of marijuana plants at illegal grow site

Investigators on Thursday seized marijuana plants illegally grown in Turlock with an estimated value of more than $1 million and a weight of more than 1,000 pounds.

Detectives with the Turlock Police Department and Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit members served a search warrant around 9 a.m. Thursday in the 2800 block of Lassiter Lane, a commercial area of Turlock.

They found just under 1,900 marijuana plants, which weighed about 1,100 pounds, according to a release.

Electrical wiring inside the structure had been modified to bring in the large amount of energy needed for the grow site. Turlock police Capt. Steven Williams said the wiring job was dangerous and could have caused a fire or electrocuted someone.

“This type of illegal marijuana cultivation operation poses a clear danger to first responders and neighboring businesses,” Williams said.

Investigators are still searching for people connected to the site. They are expected to face charges of marijuana cultivation and sale once found, according to the release.
