Police investigating assault at Mellis Park in Modesto

With a softball game going on nearby, a man was assaulted at Mellis Park on Wednesday night by at least three other men. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with a deep head laceration and other injuries, according to Lt. Jason Grogan of the Modesto Police Department. Two people were detained and questioned at the scene and later released. Grogan said more people had to be interviewed and that the investigation was ongoing. The suspects beat up the victim with a stick.
