Modesto police make arrest in 2017 Christmas Eve homicide

Modesto Police made an arrest Thursday in the fatal shooting of a man on Christmas Eve 2017.

Jason Sheard, 29, of Modesto, was arrested in the 1700 block of Carver Road and booked on suspicion of murder for the death of 26-year-old Jimmy McAny.

McAny was shot multiple times following a verbal altercation between two groups near the intersection of 10th and I streets around 2:10 a.m. Another man also was shot but survived.

Modesto police have not released any additional details about the investigation including what led them to Sheard, what the altercation was over, or if there are any outstanding suspects.

Sheard is being held at the Stanislaus County Jail with a bail of $2 million.
