Two stabbed at big, ‘chaotic’ house party near Memorial hospital, Modesto police say

Two men were dropped off at Memorial Medical Center early Sunday after being stabbed at a large house party in the neighborhood right behind it, according to Modesto police.

The victims, ages 22 and 34, arrived at the Coffee Road hospital about 2:49 a.m., Lt. Jason Grogan said. One man’s wounds were not life-threatening, but the other was seriously hurt, underwent surgery and is expected to survive, he said.

Officers interviewed the victims, which led them to the party at a home on the 1800 block of Murrietta Avenue, northeast of Rose and Briggsmore avenues.

Detectives joined officers at the party scene to do interviews, because even though a good number of people already had left the scene, many remained. Grogan was told the situation at the home was “pretty chaotic.”

Three people were arrested for delaying the investigation, he said, but as of hours later Sunday morning, there had been no arrests for the stabbings.

Anyone who witnessed the stabbings or has information on the crime is urged to call the Modesto Police Department at 209-572-9500 or Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward. Tips also can be submitted via www.stancrimetips.org.
