Turlock man held on suspicion of attempted homicide after shooting at home
A Turlock man faces a charge of attempted homicide after turning himself in Sunday night following a shooting.
About 9:30 p.m., police dispatch got multiple calls of shots fired on the 3400 block of Rochester Court, northeast of Geer Road and East Monte Vista Avenue.
Responding officers learned a domestic dispute escalated, resulting in a 33-year-old man being shot. The victim suffered wounds that were not life-threatening, the Turlock Police Department said in a news release. He was taken to a local hospital.
Detectives responded to the scene and took over the investigation.
A short time later, 25-year-old Richard Merrill surrendered at the Police Department. The firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered.
Merrill lives at the home where the shooting occurred, Police Department spokeswoman Deandra Wiley said. “It was a domestic incident involving Merrill and a female originally, then the male victim got involved and was shot,” she said in an email.
She said Merrill and the victim do not know each other. Merrill remained in custody Monday afternoon, with bail set at $500,000.
Any witnesses or anyone with information regarding the investigation are asked to call Detective Tim Redd at 209-664-7325.
