More than $1.1 million in illegal marijuana plants seized in Calaveras County

More than an estimated $1.1 million worth of marijuana plants were seized by Calaveras County law enforcement officers during a raid of illegal grows last week.

The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office served six search warrants and issued three citations during the operation, which led to the discovery of more than 1,500 plants.

On Aug. 13, deputies recovered 690 growing plants with an estimated worth over $525,300 in the 2000 block of Sonny Lane and 12000 block of Brandy Lane in Valley Springs and the 2000 block of Independence Cemetery Road in Railroad Flat.

Carlos Bernal, 21, Grover Ronald Inks, 66, and Jose Organillo, 24, were all issued citations.

The next day, they issued search warrants and found 853 growing plants in the 4600 block of Harmony Lane in Avery, the 5000 block of Log Cabin Drive in Murphys, and the 1100 block of Royal Lane in Railroad Flat.

There was no one at those sites. However, deputies found 2.4 grams of cocaine at the Log Cabin site.
