Update: Pregnant woman and unborn child die in early-morning Turlock shooting
A woman and her unborn child died from a gunshot wound Tuesday afternoon, Turlock police said.
Amythest Rochelle Cortez, 27, of Gustine was inside a vehicle with injuries around 1 a.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of Twentieth Century Boulevard, according to a news release.
Police were called to the scene on a report of an aggravated assault
The area is a residential neighborhood a few blocks south of Donnelly Park.
The suspect or suspects had left the scene before officers arrived. Cortez was taken to a local hospital, where she died.
