Suspect arrested, faces attempted-murder charge in Modesto shooting
Police have arrested a 21-year-old on charges including attempted murder in a shooting on Tuesday in north Modesto.
The incident in the 3400 block of Shawnee Drive, north of Standiford Avenue, critically injured the victim, a 39-year-old Los Banos man, said Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Bear.
The man was shot while behind the wheel of a car, which then struck a parked vehicle. Bear said the man, whose name has not been released, is stable and recovering.
The investigation by detectives from the Police Department’s Violent Crimes, Major Crimes and Street Gang units identified the shooter as Ismael Soto of Modesto. He was arrested Wednesday evening as police served a search warrant at his home, locating evidence including the handgun believed to have been used in the shooting.
The motive remains under investigation.
Soto was booked on charges including attempted murder and negligent discharge of a firearm.
