Two wounded in apparent drug-related shooting in Patterson

Two young men are expected to survive being shot in Patterson late Saturday night, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department.

Reports of shots fired in the area of Palomino and New Forest ways were called in about 11:50 p.m., Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Luke Schwartz said Sunday.

Two victims, both adults in their late teens, either drove themselves or were driven about a mile to the parking lot of the Taco Bell on Sperry Avenue, Schwartz said.

One was taken by ground ambulance to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto and the other was taken by helicopter to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. Both were stable enough to provide a limited statement on what happened, Schwartz said.

Evidence indicates the shooting was drug-related, he said. There is limited suspect information, but authorities are seeking a black male in a dark, hooded sweat shirt who was driving a light-colored two-door vehicle.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Patterson Police Services at 209-892-5071 or Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward. Tips also can be submitted via www.stancrimetips.org.
