Police seek driver in hit-and-run that killed pedestrian on Standiford in Modesto
A man crossing Standiford Avenue west of Carver Road was struck and killed in a hit-and-run collision Tuesday night, Modesto police report.
The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 56-year-old Juan Ante, who was transient and living in Modesto
The crash occurred about 10 p.m. when Ante was walking or running north across Standiford, outside a crosswalk. Investigators have reviewed surveillance video footage that shows him being struck by a silver car traveling west, Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Bear said.
The driver of what appears to be a midsize sedan with dark wheels did not stop and the car was last seen heading north of Shawnee Drive, just west of the crash site. Ante died at the scene.
The car involved should have significant front-end damage, police said.
