Modesto park vandalized with pro-Nazi graffiti

Neighbors of Muir Park in central Modesto encountered an ugly sight there Wednesday: swastikas and Nazi messages spray-painted on a wall and a structure.

Vandals wrote “Heil Hitler,” “Honor blood soil” and “SS.” The latter stands for Schutzstaffel, which was a paramilitary organization under Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party.

A resident who lives near Muir and other small parks in the area said he saw other tagging, including the words “white power.”

Modesto Police Department Lt. Jason Grogan said because the graffiti has a “hate crime flavor” to it, officers will take photos of it, try to talk with residents who may have seen the responsible party or parties and seek any available doorbell-camera images that captured the vandals.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call the Police Department’s nonemergency line, 209-572-9500.
