Update: Ceres police ID couple and child who died in apparent murder-suicide
Ceres police Tuesday identified the couple and child who died in an apparent murder-suicide early Monday.
Jang Singh, 55, shot and killed his wife, Manpreet Kaur, 34, and her son, Gurman Singh, 12, while they slept in their apartment on Roeding Road, the Ceres Police Department said in a news release..
Singh then turned the weapon on himself, police said. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
The shootings were reported at about 2:15 a.m. Monday at the Windmere Apartments, at Roeding and Tenth Street in southeast Ceres.
Recent move from India
Gurman Singh was Kaur’s son from a previous relationship, Tuesday’s update said. They had moved from India four months ago to live with Jang Singh, police said. The couple had been married for four years.
Detectives do not know the reason for the murder-suicide, the release said. The type of firearm was not disclosed.
The 80-year-old mother of Jang Singh was spending the night at the apartment, so Kaur and her son slept in the living room, police said. A video surveillance system captured the man shooting them as they slept, then walking into his bedroom and shooting himself, the release said.
The gunshots awakened the older woman, police said. She sought help from neighbors, who called 911.
