Two people were arrested Thursday for allegedly conspiring to lure a man to a Modesto motel for sex, then assaulting and robbing him.

The incident occurred April 4 at the El Capitan Motel, 1121 Needham St.

Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Bear said the victim met Daisy Applewhite, 25, on Facebook and the two agreed to meet at the motel for sex.

“A few minutes after she arrived at the motel, two males knocked on the door,” Bear said. “When the victim opened the door, the males entered, assaulted the victim and took some personal items and an undisclosed amount of cash.”

The victim suffered moderate injuries from being hit in the head with the butt of a gun, Bear said.

After reviewing surveillance footage from the motel, detectives identified the men as Jesse Portillo, 27, and Andres Gonzales, 25.

Gonzales was arrested on April 17, and Portillo and Applewhite were located and arrested Thursday.

All were booked on suspicion of robbery and conspiracy. Portillo faces additional weapons and assault charges.
