San Francisco police arrest second suspect in homicide outside FoodMaxx in Modesto
Police in San Francisco arrested a second suspect Tuesday in last week’s fatal shooting outside a Modesto grocery store.
Sailiuta Matau, 32, was wanted in the death of Donald Patterson, 57, in the FoodMaxx parking lot on West Briggsmore Avenue.
The first suspect – Khalil Thorne, 19, of Modesto – was arrested the day of the shooting. Patterson, a regular customer at the store, was shot at about 5:45 a.m. Thursday, April 9, police said.
The Modesto Police Department had warned Friday night that Matau was “armed and dangerous.” Details were not available on his arrest, including where in San Francisco he was found and whether he was detained without incident.
“Thank you to SFPD for their help in getting Matau in custody!” said a Facebook post Tuesday by the Modesto department.
Matau was booked at the Stanislaus County Jail on charges of murder and attempted robbery, without bail. Thorne remains there without bail on the same charges.
