Dozens of 911 calls report shots fired for 90 minutes along McHenry Avenue in Modesto

On Tuesday night more than 30 911 calls came into police dispatch reporting someone or several people repeatedly firing guns along lower McHenry Avenue and surrounding neighborhoods for 90 minutes straight.

The calls came in from 11:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. from areas including Roseburg Avenue near the Virginia corridor, Brady Avenue and near Kelly-Moore Paints on McHenry, said Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Bear.

“Officers responded and heard shots as well,” she said. “Officers attempted to track the sounds of the shots and search the area. They were actively searching for the shooter(s) for a couple of hours” but none were located.

Bear did not have an estimate on how many shots were fired during this time. A resident who messaged The Modesto Bee at 2 a.m. said he’d heard “60 rounds and counting.”

Bear did not know if any shell casings were collected.
