1 dead, 3 injured in Ceres-area shooting. Stanislaus deputies out looking for suspects
A Ceres man died and three others were wounded Sunday night in a shooting on the 3600 block of Spruce Avenue just south of Ceres, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department reported.
Warrants were being served at more than one location Monday morning as deputies search for suspects, Sgt. Chris Gallo said. He said the condition of the survivors is “fluid.”
About 9:45 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to the report of the shooting and located three wounded, who were taken to local hospitals, Sheriff’s Department spokesman Lt. Joshua Clayton said Monday. One of those people died, he said.
The man who died was identified as 28-year-old Jose Soto of Ceres.
“An additional person arrived at a hospital with at least one gunshot wound,” Clayton said in a text to The Bee. “Detectives responded to the scene to handle the investigation and are actively working leads.”
One young student and a family member who was walking her out of the taped-off area said they didn’t know anything about what had happened.
The same was true for an older student just outside the crime scene, who while getting in his car said he was doing homework last night and had no idea what was going on outside. “That’s crazy,” he said when told of the shootings.
The investigation is being conducted by the robbery/homicide unit, Gallo said.
Anyone with information about the shootings is asked to call Detective Cory Brown at 209-567-4485.
Tips also may be made to Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636 or www.stancrimetips.org. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
