Highway Patrol investigates hit-and-run crash that killed Modestan. Car left evidence
California Highway Patrol officers have at least one piece of evidence as they seek the driver in a hit-and-run crash that killed a Modesto man Saturday night.
The driver-side mirror of the sedan that struck and killed a 71-year-old pedestrian near Newman remained at the scene, CHP Modesto Area office spokesman Officer Thomas Olsen said Sunday.
The collision on Stuhr Road just west of McClintock Road was reported shortly before 10:30 p.m. The rural stretch is north of Newman.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, Olsen said. His name has not been released.
The car is likely to have front-end collision damage in addition to the missing mirror.
Anyone with information on the crash is encouraged to contact the CHP’s nonemergency number at 209-356-2900 or the Modesto Area CHP at 209-545-7440.
