Deputies investigating west Modesto shooting that left one dead, three injured
One man was killed and three people injured in a shooting in west Modesto on Friday afternoon, the Stanislaus County Sheriffs Department reported.
Deputies were dispatched to a call of suspicious circumstances in the 1900 block of Vernon Avenue at 4:21 p.m., the department said in a news release. The scene is near the intersection with Robertson Road.
Deputies arrived to find three gunshot victims, authorities said. The victims were only identified as two Latino men and one Latino woman. All three were taken to local hospitals for treatment, where one of the men died.
Burbank-Paradise Fire Chief Chris Parnell said his department also was called to the scene. When firefighters arrived, deputies were performing CPR on one of the victims, Parnell said. Firefighters took over and also rode to the hospital in the ambulance with the man.
“That was the victim that ended up passing away,” Parnell said.
A fourth victim transported himself to the hospital, the sheriff’s department said.
The other three victims are expected to survive their injuries, authorities said.
Detectives were speaking with witnesses to determine what happened before the shooting, the news release said. There was no word whether any suspects had been identified or taken into custody.
Authorities ask anyone with information on the incident to contact Detective Kamila Kulkowski at 209-525-7032.
