On the day an 11-year-old Patterson girl agreed to meet the 22-year-old man with whom she’d been communicating on Snapchat, her older brother intervened when he saw an inappropriate message pop up on the girl’s phone, police said.

The girl’s family reported the Snapchat exchanges with the man to police when they were discovered in late October, said Detective Casey Cooper of Patterson Police Services.

He said the girl and man had been exchanging messages for a little over a month and that the man had sent her an image of his genitals. He also tried to get her to send him naked images, but it’s unknown if she did, Cooper said.

While the girl presented herself as older than she is, he knew she was a minor and he told her he was a minor as well, Cooper said.

The two were arranging to meet for sex the day the messages were discovered by the brother, the detective said.

Cooper identified the suspect as 22-year-old Patterson resident David Gonzalez Ahumada. On Thursday, detectives seized electronic devices during searches of Ahumada’s home and work, Cooper said.

Ahumada was arrested on suspicion of sending harmful matter to seduce a minor, contacting a minor to commit a felony, attempted child molestation, child endangerment and arranging to meet a minor for the purpose of sex.
