Riverbank man arrested in DUI hit-and-run

A 32-year-old Riverbank man, Joshua Forest, was booked at the Stanislaus County jail Wednesday night on felony charges of driving under the influence and hit-and-run after he struck a teen pedestrian.

Forest was driving in the 6000 block of Creek Bend Drive with his wife and three children in his vehicle when he struck a 17-year-old girl and fled the scene, sheriff’s Sgt. Jon McQueary said.

The teen was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto with “visible injuries,” McQueary said, citing a report from the scene. A Memorial spokesman would not comment on the patient’s injuries or condition Thursday morning, but a sergeant who was at the crash scene told McQueary the girl appeared to be stable and did not have life-threatening injuries.

On the Riverbank Police Services’ Facebook page Thursday morning, the agency posted, “she's going to be OK.”

In addition to the DUI and hit-and-run, Forest faces charges of driving on a suspended license and child endangerment, McQueary said. He was not injured in the crash, nor were his wife or children. He remained in custody Thursday with bail set at $25,000.

On Facebook, Riverbank Police Services thanked residents of the community for helping Riverbank and Sheriff’s Department deputies find Forest after he fled the scene: “Thanks to alert citizens and multiple calls, deputies located the vehicle as it was fleeing.”
