An alleged co-conspirator of a man fatally shot by deputies last month in Modesto was arrested Sunday at a carnival at the Vintage Faire Mall.

Police say LaShanti Williams, 18, was with Dai’Shawn Brown, Andreuss Brown and Raymond Brown on Feb. 24 when they carjacked a friend of Dai’Shawn Brown.

Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies David Corder and Christopher Gallo, both detectives with the department’s STING unit, shot Dai’shawn Brown on March 21. They had contacted him and Andreuss Brown in the area of Carver Road and Teresa Court because they knew they were wanted by Modesto police for the carjacking, Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Bear said Monday. She did not say why the deputies were in Modesto.

Modesto police, which is investigating the shooting because it happened in its jurisdiction, has said a firearm was recovered at the scene but would not say if Dai’Shawn Brown had possession of it or if he pointed it at deputies.

Dai’Shawn Brown died shortly after the shooting, and his cousin Andreuss Brown was arrested in connection with the carjacking.

On Sunday, Modesto police got information that Williams was a carnival at the mall. Officers arrested her there and booked her on suspicion of carjacking, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and conspiracy.

Raymond Brown, who police said hit the carjacking victim in the head with a BB gun multiple times, remains at large.
