Modesto man and minor arrested in armed robbery of Manteca store
A 23-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, both from Modesto, were arrested in the robbery of a Manteca store late Tuesday, police in that city reported.
At 11:39 p.m. Tuesday, Manteca police dispatch got a 911 call reporting the armed robbery of Discount Market, 502 N. Union Road.
The caller gave a description of the getaway car, and officers who arrived on scene quickly located it in the area of North Union Road and Alameda Street, the Manteca Police Department said in a post on its Facebook page.
Police pulled over the vehicle, which contained an adult male driver and a juvenile male passenger. Driver Erieous Marquisimani Washington, 23, of Modesto was taken into custody without incident.
The 16-year-old was ordered out of the vehicle but failed to comply. Because a firearm was reportedly used in the robbery and because the teen would not keep his hands visible, a police dog was unleashed on him.
The K-9 held the youth as officers placed him under arrest without further incident, police said.
A loaded gun was found in the front waistband of the teen’s pants. Additional evidence tying the pair to the robbery also was found, police said.
“Other than the minor injuries caused by the K-9 to the juvenile suspect, there were no other injuries to any other parties, including the employee of the Discount Market,” the Facebook post said.
The teen was booked into San Joaquin County Juvenile Hall. He faces charges of robbery, conspiracy to commit a crime, carrying a loaded firearm with intent to commit a felony, being a minor in possession of a firearm, having a large-capacity ammunition magazine and resisting arrest.
Washington was booked into county jail on charges of robbery and conspiracy.
