Police arrest suspect in fatal shooting of Modesto man
Police arrested a 42-year-old Modesto man late Sunday, suspected in the shooting death of another man earlier that day.
Just after 10 p.m., officers arrested Pedro Costa in the 3600 block of Colonial Drive, Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Heather Graves said.
Costa is a suspect in the death of Robert Herrera, 45. The shooting was reported early Sunday after Herrera arrived at a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigating officers determined that Herrera had been involved in an altercation in the 1300 block of Clevenger Drive, Graves said. The location is about a half-mile from where Costa was arrested.
Costa was booked into Stanislaus County Jail on a murder charge. He is being held without bail.
Investigators are working to determine a motive and what led to the shooting, Graves said.
Nearby neighbors have said the home was the site of drug activity.
