Five Modestans sentenced in Ripon store robbery

Five Modesto men have been sentenced to multi-year prison terms for a failed Ripon store robbery in August, the Ripon Police Department announced Thursday.

Those convicted on robbery charges and sentenced are Yousef Foadmohssen Elsumari and Christian Jeffrey Hudec, both 19, and Felix Alberto Reyes, Elijah Lee Wethington and Laron Calvin Williams, all 18.

On Aug. 6, Ripon officers responded to the Ripona Market after a call reporting a violent, armed, takeover robbery. Gunmen pistol-whipped the clerk and fled the area with cash and property.

Police Chief Ed Ormonde captured one fleeing suspect near the Main Street overpass.

Lt. Steve Merchant arrested a second fleeing suspect on Manley Road. A third suspect was found hiding in a shed on Wells Court. He was taken into custody by officer Kenny Steele.

Detectives Gordon West and Alex Burgos developed information leading to the arrest of a fourth suspect in Modesto.

The fifth suspect was located by officer Ken Husman. He was questioned at the Ripon Police Department by Detective Sgt. Terri Jensen and taken into custody. Stolen cash and property were recovered.

One of the suspects, Elsumari, is related to the owner of the Ripona Market and worked as a part-time employee there.
