Newspaper publisher attacked at Salida home
A Salida man who produces a Punjabi-language weekly newspaper and its website was beaten at his home Tuesday night, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department.
Boota Basi told deputies that about 8:30 p.m., he answered the door of his Overland Place home to find four or five people, who began striking him on the shins and knees with what he believed were baseball bats, said sheriff’s Sgt. Jon McQueary.
Basi told deputies he writes controversial articles and believes the attackers were upset by the content of his newspaper, Sanjhi Soch.
The victim suffered at least scrapes and abrasions and was transported to a hospital for treatment, McQueary said.
He gave deputies a description of a vehicle and partial license plate.
