Two arrested pawning stolen jewelry in south Modesto
Two men were arrested Tuesday afternoon at a jewelery store where they allegedly pawned a necklace they’d ripped from the victim’s neck minutes before.
The 40-year-old victim was waiting for food he’d ordered at a taco truck in the 1600 block of Crows Landing Road at about 1 p.m. when he was approached by one of the suspects, said Anthony Bejaran, a deputy with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department.
The victim told deputies the suspect ripped his 14-karat gold chain and crucifix off his neck and then ran with two other men. A witness saw them get in a car, which was located a short time later, and park in front of a jewelry store in the 1900 Block of Crows Landing Road.
Deputies detained two suspects who they learned had pawned the stolen necklace in the jewelry store, Bejaran said.
Niko Jacobo, 18, and Tyler Tiwater, 19, were arrested on suspicion of robbery and conspiracy. Deputies are working to identify the third suspect, who remains at large.
