Ripon traffic stop leads to stolen gun
A traffic stop Sunday in Ripon led to the arrest of a Manteca man for possession of a stolen gun.
Ripon police officer Mario Ysit made the traffic stop on a black Toyota Prius near the intersection of South Jack Tone Road and Stanley Drive. Four people were inside the vehicle, and the driver, 23-year-old Daniel Meza, was found to be driving on a suspended license.
During a search of the vehicle, a stolen 9mm pistol was located. Meza was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on charges including being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a concealed firearm and possession of stolen property.
Gang enhancement charges are also being sought, according to a news release from the Ripon Police Department.
Detectives with Ripon’s Special Investigations Unit are working Manteca Police Department investigators on the case because the recovered pistol had been stolen during a home burglary in Manteca last month.
