Altercation leads to stabbing in Riverbank

Accusations and an argument led to a stabbing Thursday evening in Riverbank, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department. The incident occurred at about 7 p.m. in the 6000 block of Tennessee Avenue.

Rodney Herdig was confronted by Alexander Lincoln and his mother because they believed Herdig had destroyed property belonging to them, said Sgt. Jon McQueary. The victim (Herdig) became agitated and walked toward the mother in an aggressive manner,” McQueary said.

Lincoln, 21, reportedly thought Herdig was going to harm his mother, so pulled a knife and stabbed him in the abdomen. Herdig – no age available, but estimated to be in his mid-30s – suffered a wound that was not life-threatening. He was treated at a hospital and released.

Lincoln was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
