Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies on Wednesday afternoon apprehended a suspect in a burglary who authorities say led them on a chase through northeast Stanislaus County.

The burglary was reported in Hartley Court in the Del Rio neighborhood north of Modesto. The victim came home to find a man in the house, Deputy Anthony Bejaran said. “The suspect fled in her vehicle,” he said. The burglary occurred about 12:30 p.m.

Deputies followed the car, a Chevrolet Suburban, through parts of Oakdale and Riverbank before locating it in the area of River Bluff Drive.

Authorities locked down nearby Cloverland School in Oakdale as a precaution while the search went on, Bejaran said.

More than one gun was stolen in the burglary; it wasn’t clear how many, Bejaran said, but “we believe we have recovered them when the suspect fled from the vehicle.”

Authorities tracked the man to the backyard of a home on Jeanette Court, where a deputy dispatched a K-9 to apprehend him about 2:30 p.m.

The suspect, identified as Shawn Majors, 38, of Oakdale, was taken to a local hospital to be cleared before being booked.

“We believe we have recovered all the stolen property including the vehicle,” Bejaran said.
