Police investigate shooting in Ceres
Ceres police are investigating a shooting Tuesday night that may have started as a road rage incident.
According to police, a 34-year-old man from Ceres was shot at about 8:45 p.m. on Evans Road near Brookings Court. The man had been driving behind some friends, on the way to the store, when the car ahead of him stopped abruptly to avoid a dog in the road, Sgt. Jose Berber said in a news release.
The man got out of his car to check on his friends in the other car. The suspect, who was driving a car behind the victim, drove past the scene. “The victim raised his hands to his shoulder height with his palms up,” Berber said.
The suspect turned around and came back, then exchanged words with the victim before firing a shot that hit the victim in the face. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, authorities said. The suspect is described only as black, and his car as a dark-colored sedan.
Authorities ask anyone who saw the incident or who may have information on the case to call Detective Carlos Quiroz at (209) 538-5638.
