He pursued driver who flashed lights at him. What he did next got him arrested.

Modesto Bee file

When driving a stolen vehicle and not fleeing authorities, you'd think a guy would want to keep a low profile.

But Wednesday morning, a Waterford man did anything but.

Shortly after 5 a.m., the driver of a big rig was on his way to work, westbound on Keyes Road having just crossed Highway 99, the California Highway Patrol reported. The driver of a 2013 Ram 2500 who got off southbound Highway 99 at the Keyes Road exit stopped at a stop sign before pulling out in front of the big rig and cutting it off, the rig's driver told the CHP.

The rig driver flashed his high beams at the pickup driver and then both continued west on Keyes Road, said CHP Officer Chuck Leon. But the pickup driver, later identified as 49-year-old Jason Edward Allen, made a U-turn and then another U-turn, positioning himself behind the big rig, Leon said.

The rig driver turned onto Jessup Road to continue to work, Leon said, and Allen followed. "The victim parks in the lot and sees the suspect continue down the dead-end road. There was no confrontation," the officer said.

But there was this: "One of the co-workers then sees the suspect's vehicle collide with a parked vehicle," Leon said.

Allen didn't flee the scene, Leon said. When the CHP arrived at the scene, officers determined the pickup was stolen and arrested the Waterford man. Officers also found a loaded firearm in the truck.

The registered owner of the Ram was notified and went to the scene to retrieve the pickup.

Allen, who was not injured in the crash, faces charges of vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, carrying a loaded firearm in public and not being the weapon's registered owner.

He has prior convictions on charges including possession of a controlled substance and receiving known stolen property.
