See a wrong-way driver on Modesto's Sisk Road? Here's what that was.

After leading Modesto police on a slow-speed pursuit through the Vintage Faire Mall parking lot Thursday night and then driving the wrong way on Sisk Road, a suspect was found by Stanislaus County sheriff's deputies at a Salida motel and arrested.

Even that was not simple, according to the police report on the case. When sheriff's deputies contacted Santiago Casas at the motel, he refused to comply with commands, Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Heather Graves said.

A bean bag was fired at him, but still he resisted arrest, she said. Deputies deployed a K9, which allowed them to take Casas into custody. After he was medically cleared, he was booked into jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, reckless driving as he evaded police, and resisting arrest.

The incident began with an attempted traffic stop at Dale Road and Veneman Avenue, on the east side of the mall. Casas drove through the mall parking lot at about 20 mph, Graves said, then got on Sisk, where he drove against traffic. Because his driving "was clearly a danger to others," police did not pursue him on Sisk, Graves said.

Fortunately, there apparently were no collisions as Casas drove north on Sisk toward Salida, where he later was found by deputies in the parking lot of a motel. He remained in jail Friday morning, with bail set at $50,000.

Modesto police made another DUI arrest in the area of the mall Thursday night, Graves said. Officers responded to a report that Javier Saucedo, 34, brandished a firearm during an argument at Gagos and Akeby drives, behind the Target shopping center on Sisk.

Saucedo was found driving in the area. Officers made a traffic stop, determined he was under the influence and placed him under arrest, Graves said. Metal knuckles and an open alcohol container were found in his vehicle, she said. There's no indication a gun was found.

And yet another driver attempted to flee police during a traffic stop Thursday, this one at Western Way and Sutter Avenue in west Modesto. Benjamin Castillo, 29, did not escape arrest and faces charges of DUI, driving without a license and violation of probation, Graves said.
