A 17-year-old who is nine months pregnant was shot twice Tuesday evening at a Modesto home southeast of South Carpenter and West Hatch roads.

The young woman was sleeping upstairs in a house on the 1700 block of St. Charlotte Lane at about 6:30 p.m. when shots were fired from a vehicle driving by, said Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Heather Graves.

The wounds were not life-threatening, Graves said, and the woman's unborn child was not harmed.

Emergency medical responders treated and stabilized the patient at the scene and took her by ambulance to a hospital, the Modesto Fire Department reported.

Graves said there are no known witnesses to the shooting, and no suspect information.
