Two stabbed, shots fired during large fight in south Modesto

Modesto Bee file

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department is investigating the stabbing of two people during a large fight in Modesto's airport neighborhood Wednesday morning.

Minutes after 5 a.m., 911 dispatchers received a call of a man down at the intersection of Thrasher Avenue and Tenaya Drive, Sgt. Jesus Sigala said. While deputies were en route, additional calls came in that there'd been a stabbing and shots fired, he said.

"Deputies found at least two victims who had been physically assaulted and stabbed," Sigala said. The investigation determined that several shots had been fired, but apparently no one was hit, he said.

Both stabbing victims are male, but their ages had not yet been determined, Sigala said about 90 minutes after the incident. One suffered minor injuries, the other moderate injuries, the sergeant said.

The stabbings occurred during a large fight, Sigala said. What led to it, and whether it was gang-related, had not been determined, he said.

Suspect information has not been released because descriptions vary, Sigala said. Anyone with information on the fight and stabbings is asked to call the Sheriff's Department at 209-525-7114. Anonymous tips also may be made to Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636.
