Modesto man hurt in suspected DUI crash

A 24-year-old Modesto man suffered major injuries in a single-car crash early Friday.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Shashil Narayan, 24, was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry west on Elm Avenue in west Modesto when the crash occurred at 2:55 a.m.

The car went of the road onto the gravel shoulder, striking a tree, the CHP said. Narayan, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered major injuries and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

Investigators suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash, the CHP said.
