Police: Suspect robbed Modesto bank twice
A man suspected of robbing a McHenry Avenue bank earlier this month was arrested Tuesday afternoon when parole agents spotted him riding in a car on Seventh Street.
The suspect was described as wearing women’s clothing when he entered the West America Bank in the 1500 block of McHenry Avenue on April 3, according to Modesto police.
Witnesses reported that he walked up to the teller and handed over a note demanding money and saying he had a gun. The suspect was given an undisclosed amount of money before leaving the area on foot.
Detectives quickly identified the suspect as Tyrone Smith and issued a warrant for his arrest.
Parole agents and Modesto police stopped the car in which Smith was riding Tuesday and arrested him on suspicion of robbery and parole violation.
Smith was on parole for a bank robbery he committed in 2007 at the same bank.
