Victim in Modesto’s Mellis Park machete stabbing identified
The Modesto Police Department released the name Sunday of the man who was stabbed to death in Mellis Park on Friday night.
The victim was 55-year-old Robbie Hull Jr., who was found by police at 9:12 p.m. in the west Modesto park.
The perpetrator, who apparently used a large machete, has not been found or identified, according to police spokeswoman Heather Graves.
Officers responded to a 911 call of a man being stabbed. When they arrived, they found Hull lying face down with multiple stab wounds to his chest. He was taken by ambulance to Doctors Medical Center, where he died in surgery about 11:30 p.m.
According to police, the preliminary investigation indicates that prior to the stabbing, Hull was involved in a fight with a man near the park. As Hull tried to leave the area, the man stabbed him multiple times with what was described as a large machete, before fleeing in a vehicle.
