Police investigating stabbing death in west Modesto park

A man died Friday night after being stabbed multiple times in west Modesto with what investigators believe was a machete.

Officers responded to Mellis Park at Martin Luther King Drive at 9:12 p.m. on a report of a man lying on the ground bleeding, said Modesto police spokeswoman Heather Graves.

The man was taken by ambulance to Doctors Medical Center where he died in surgery about 11:30 p.m.

There is no suspect information, and the identity of the victim was not released.
