Authorities investigating report of shooting in Ceres find fight, car burglary

A Ceres neighborhood was cordoned off Sunday afternoon as Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a shooting.

The incident was reported in the 3600 block of Spruce Street, according to deputy Royjindar Singh, a department spokesman.

“When we got on scene, we determined a neighbor confronted another individual who was possibly breaking into a car,” Singh said. The two got into a physical fight and the suspect threw a brick through the victim’s window.

A suspect was detained in that case; his name was not released Sunday.

It was not clear if the shots fired report was connected with the auto burglary, Singh said. Deputies and Ceres police who responded did find shell casings in the area and continue to investigate.
