The man who attempted to rob the Burger King restaurant in east Sonora at gunpoint on Thursday night remains at large.

The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office on Monday released surveillance photos of the masked man, who is described as a heavy-set white male, about 6 feet to 6 feet, 4 inches tall.

The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office got a call just after 9 p.m. from a restaurant that neighbors Burger King. The caller reported that BK employees had been held at gunpoint but escaped the restaurant to seek help.

Deputies arrived within minutes, set up a perimeter and later entered Burger King, but the man had fled. All cash locked in the registers was accounted for, and it appears nothing was taken from the restaurant, the Sheriff's Office reported.

The man wore a black-hooded jacket, blue shirt, black ski mask and black leather gloves.

Anyone with information about the attempted robbery is urged to call the Sheriff's Office at 209-533-5815.
