Modesto police will step up DUI patrols once again over parts of six days
Modesto police will step up enforcement against drunk and drugged driving over parts of the next few days.
The department's DUI Enforcement Team will patrol areas with a high frequency of arrests and accidents. The first wave will be from 7 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday, followed by the same hours Saturday night into Sunday. The effort will continue from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. each day into Wednesday.
A grant from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration pays for this and other DUI operations. The department notes that three people died and another 14 were injured in Modesto accidents involving impaired drivers over the past three years.
Police advise people to call 911 if they suspect a driver under the influence.
