Woman's death under investigation in Riverbank

A death early Tuesday morning in Riverbank is being investigated by the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department.

The Modesto and Stanislaus Consolidated fire departments responded at about 2:35 a.m. to a report of a traumatic injury in the area of Patterson and Claus roads, said Modesto Battalion Chief Darin Jesberg.

"When we got there, there was a young (adult) female on the kitchen floor," he said. Crews performed CPR for 30 minutes but the woman's condition did not improve, he said. She was declared dead at the scene.

There were no obvious wounds, Jesberg said, but "the details around it are suspicious."

A Sheriff's Department sergeant would confirm only that the death is under investigation.
