Off-duty deputy comes to aid of woman being assaulted
An off-duty Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office deputy came to the aid of a woman he witnessed being assaulted along Stockton Road, Sonora police report.
The incident occurred Saturday, just before 5:30 p.m Officers were dispatched to a report of a fight in progress. They arrived to find Jamestown resident Robert Travis Wade Jr., 29, in a physical altercation with the off-duty deputy.
Police determined that when the deputy saw the woman being attacked, he came to her aid. Wade turned his aggression toward the deputy, police said.
Neither the deputy nor the woman was seriously injured, police said, and Wade quickly was taken into custody.
Wade was booked into the Tuolumne County Jail. Charges are battery on a peace officer, domestic battery and failure to appear on a warrant stemming from a violation of probation charge, according to the Sheriff's Office. Bail is $40,000.
