Man robbed, assaulted at Safeway parking lot in Modesto
A man in his 60s was assaulted and robbed in Modesto Saturday morning while he waited in a grocery store parking lot to meet a friend.
The friends had plans to attend a classic car show together and the victim was waiting by his vehicle at the Safeway parking lot on McHenry Avenue, said Modesto Police Lt. Tom Ciccarelli.
Shortly after 6 a.m. three men in a dark colored sedan drove up and demanded the victim's wallet.
One of the men struck the victim in the head with what he believes was a metal pipe, Ciccarelli said.
The suspects took the victim’s wallet and fled the scene south on McHenry. The victim was taken by ambulance to a Modesto hospital with a large laceration above his left eye.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Modesto Police Department at 209-572-9500.
