Man shot during fight outside central Modesto house party

A house party in central Modesto that a witness said went on all day and into the night Monday, ended with about 20 people fighting in the streets and one man being shot.

Just after 10 p.m. several people called 911 to report about 20 people had spilled from a house party in the 2900 block of Hemminger Way, southwest of Rumble and Tully Roads, and were fighting in the streets, according to Modesto Police. During the fight gunshots were heard.

Modesto Police arrived on scene and broke up the group so Modesto Firefighters could get the gunshot victim.

“Fire Crews found a male victim with a wound to his leg; it appeared a bullet had hit the pavement and ricocheted and struck him in the leg,” according to a report from the Modesto Fire Department.

The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A suspect was not located.
