Sobriety checkpoint nets 2 arrests; more DUI patrols in Modesto this weekend
Officers arrested two people suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol when they were screened at a recent sobriety checkpoint in east Modesto, and police will be out again tonight looking for drunken drivers.
The checkpoint was conducted near Oakdale Road and Morningside Drive, just south of Orangeburg Avenue. Modesto police officers screened 1,003 at the checkpoint, which started at 8:30 p.m. March 27 and continued for seven hours.
The officers also cited 11 people for driving a vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
Modesto police tonight will deploy a saturation patrol, where officers are assigned to solely look for drunken drivers.
On April 10, Modesto police will conduct another sobriety checkpoint at an undisclosed location. Officers at the checkpoint also will be looking for those driving without a valid driver’s license.
The DUI enforcement is funded by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety.
